Aromatherapy at Vision Forward’s Play It Forward Sports & Wellness Camp!

Yesterday, I had the honor to teach an aromatherapy class at Vision Forward‘s Play it Forward Sports & Wellness Camp at Marquette University. Vision Forward provides services and resources, from birth through adulthood, to people with visual impairments.
What a BLAST! 16 adolescents ranging from 10-16 years old joined me in learning a little background on essential oils and safety. They all experienced different aromas and what those could help with: sleeping, relaxing, focusing, and waking up. At the end of the class, they picked 1 or 2 essential oils to mix with their carrier oils to take home. They were enthusiastic and such a joy to work with!

Neighbors of Pure Wellness

In April, my neighbor Kristine Joy moved in next door to my suite. Kristine is also a Reiki Master Teacher and an Intuitive as well! She holds regular spirit message circles and is an all-round kind, fun and warm person!
In August we will have a yoga studio opening up across the hall from us! Deanna from Tulasara Wellness and Cari of Simple Joy Yoga will be moving in so make sure you grab a spot in their classes after a service with me!

Now Offering NCBTMB Continuing Education Credits!

For years I have been going back and forth on becoming an accredited teacher for continuing education. I finally decided this year to do it!
After a lengthy application process, outlining my classes by each hour, listing objectives and more, it was finally done. Then I had to be patient as the approval period could be up to 8 weeks.
Yesterday, I received notice that I am now an Approved Provider of NCBTMB! This means I can give continuing education credits for professionals who need them! Licensed Massage Therapists of most states in the country need these to continue their licensure so it’s pretty important!
I am excited to be about to provide this now!

Everyone Has Stress (Even the Good Kind)

After doing a little estimating, I realized I’ve had at least 6,000 appointments (thousands of people) for wellness appointments (massage, reiki, meditation, self care classes) over the past 10 years. Every single one of them comes in with some type of stress, even if they’re coming in for injuries or chronic pain.
So many lives and stories all pointing back to one thing: stress.

Stress does not necessarily mean something bad either. Some have stress from happy events or even things they enjoy doing regularly.

So… are you taking time to just Be? Are you taking time to do nothing? I know. Many people prickle at the thought of doing nothing: they think it may be lazy, unproductive, or even boring. I’m not talking about days on end. I’m talking about an afternoon, an hour or even 5 minutes of actually breathing. Listening to your breath travel through your nose and down into your lungs- one of the things that keep you alive.

I’m also talking about putting time aside for that thing you enjoy doing but causes you stress because you’ve crammed it into an already too-packed schedule.

I know, some say “no time! No privacy”. Take your kids to the swings in a park. Sit by a tree for 5 minutes. Go to the bathroom and lock the door for 10 minutes.

Ask for help.
I have to ask for help too.

Now take a deep breath.

Some Things Get Better With Age

On February 2nd, 2008 I turned 30 and graduated from Lakeside School of Massage. It was both a great beginning and shock to a new decade for me. I wanted to help people and changed careers from doing Graphic Design and Office Management to becoming a Licensed Massage Therapist.
Our economy had just tanked as well, leading me through my first few years in the massage world with some real eye-opening experience.

Winds of Change

As Pure Wellness has grown providing more Reiki and wellness classes, I found myself needing a specific space for those classes. I had seen this building 4 years ago when we were space hunting, but it seemed so out of reach at the time. Then my family and I moved into that area, not realizing that was that building. Then I went business space shopping at the beginning of the year and it popped up in the listings.

A New Resolution: Taking Care of Yourself

Whether or not you make resolutions, it’s become more important than ever to take care of yourself. Besides living a long life and being around for your loved ones (including children), don’t you want your long life to be as stress-free as possible? Many people are probably laughing at that last thought, but of all the things you can  control: How to relieve your body of unwanted stress.

Have you heard of 21st Century Stress? Yes, it’s a real thing. Whether we want to admit it or not, our lives are a constant buzzing around, checking emails, posting on facebook, tweeting this and texting that. We’ve actually somehow added to the day to day stress of just living, working, and even playing.
